Hope
Hope when there is none
Hope when you’re hurting
When you’re angry
When you don’t understand
There’s a light at the end of the tunnel
And when you feel lost in the maze
And you don’t know which way is forward or backwards
Don’t give up
Help is on the way
Just like there’s something bigger that kept you from knowing
There’s something bigger that can come to your aid
Not just me, but the truth
The truth about Hope
There is

Proper Perspective on Eczema
If you remember anything, remember this: We are biochemically different; and, since there are so many things we can do to improve our condition, it's not about everything we have to do, it's about all the wonderful things we can do. It's not about being a perfectionist, it's about the gift of knowledge of ecology and our body's ability to heal itself. Little by little, baby steps, you will learn to change your biochemistry and recover.
What is Eczema?
If you haven't done so already, be sure and read "The Cure for Eczema" article by Christina Nevada. Eczema is a general term used to describe a variety of skin rashes. These rashes are from any or a combination of these: not drinking enough water, an imbalance of bacteria, improper internal and external pH, digestive issues, allergies, a need to detoxify, nutrition, external chemical destruction, stress and hormonal imbalances. Relax, though, because addressing any one of these can improve your situation. The body is a beautiful and amazing thing.
How Many People Suffer From It?
You may have heard that in the USA alone 15,000,000 people suffer from eczema and 10% of all infants. Fact is, according to US News and World Report, 10-20% of Americans suffer, and with The Census Bureau Pop Clock reporting Thanksgiving Day 2006 that population at: 300,267,154, math suggests the actual figure is anywhere between 30 and 60 million just in the USA. Moreover, with the world's population at: 6,558,828,684 and a mid-zone 15% calculation, nearly 1 billion people worldwide may be suffering from some form or another of eczema.
Why Do So Many Suffer From Eczema?
Externally ...
Generally, some chemicals we come in contact with can disturb or destroy the pH balance of our skin. For example, alkaline soaps remove the acid mantle, and the acid mantle is what protects the skin from bad bacteria and fungus. When the acid mantle is disturbed, the natural protection against harmful bacteria and fungal colonization is reduced, and with reduced protection, the skin can become more vulnerable to sensitization and infection. Some forms of eczema improve with the use of antibacterial or antifungal agents, but please note that Neomycin (found in Neosporin and triple antibiotic ointments) causes allergic contact dermatitis in 30% of patients with eczema. Read this article published in the New England Journal of Medicine entitled "Eczema Patients Lack Natural Antibiotic."
Internally ...
We need to detoxify (clean out our insides), provide the right balance of bacteria, pH and nutrients.
And then there is stress ... stress can bring on eczema or cause it to worsen. Healthy boundaries in relationships is key. There's a book called Boundaries that helps define when to say "yes" and when to say "no" without feeling guilty about it and web pages on this subject in the site.
It's an orchestra. We need to change the way we handle chemicals, food and people. It's going to be okay ... I promise. Eventually, we'll beat this. Scientists are even working on nanobots to interact with our biological neurons to have immortality within the the next 20 or 30 years, now that's amazing. As wonderfully engineered as our bodies are, ecology isn't something new. You can get well, and you can understand why.
The Majority of Problems
Skin care products, hair preparations (including colors which are extremely alkaline), and facial makeup account for the majority of problems in people who suffer from contact dermatitis which supposedly is the #1 form of eczema.
Different Folk Remedies for Different Folks What irritates my skin might not irritate yours, and vice versa. Why? Everyone is bio-chemically different. Different environments, quantities and interactions of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and fiber and differences in the way our bodies perform, such as one end-organ response to another, account for why we react differently when exposed to the same thing. So, even though some things can irritate eczema, concerning yourself with them all is unwarranted. You must reinforce this protective truth in your mind. A few simple changes can make a lot of difference.
Best Most Helpful Things I Did To Recover
1. Working on my internal and external pH and bacteria.
2. Began drinking more water, green drinks to get liquid nutrition and to clean out my body (digestive enzymes, and raw fruits and vegetables also helped),
3. Increased essential fatty acids (like those found in flax oil) to moisturize my skin from within, and
4. Decreased gluten (cut down on bagels, breads and pizza) and substituted with flat breads and tortillas and thin crusts.
5. I began exercising healthy boundaries in relationships and read From Panic To Power.
6. Learned about the medicines I was taking that caused this all to begin with (cough medicine and hydrocortisone).

Most Importantly and Always Remember
Whatever you do, don't panic because it's all downhill from here, don't stop believing you can get better. Since there are so many things you can do to improve eczema, the nice thing about it is that you don't need to be perfect in anything, and that's science.
